We are living in a rebel state

Not since the transition from the apartheid government to the ANC governed democratic dispensation have we seen such a state of fear. The majority of residents understand that this would alter the course of the world significantly, while it seems other regard this situation as a holiday.

I am not a person who lives in fear. I am not a person who easily critises either. I would love to think that I keep a clear perspective in most situations and that I am able to discern with great caution what causes human behavior. I love to think about what motivates others.

In the our locked down state, who have a number of extremes:

  1. The ones who fear. People who panic shopped and intend staying not even in their year only, but ONLY inside their homes. Fortunate, some say, as they can afford to do so, negative, others say, as they see dooms day already. For most, quite a bit selfish.
  2. The middle man. People who obey the rules and laws, who stay inside, buy necessities as and when required, and who 
  3. The idiots. These are the guys who will kill the economy,but also ensure that a large number of people lose their lives. Yes, poverty plays a role. Yes, unemployment plays a role. No, you are not well informed, or maybe it is a case of pure ignorance.
Idiot is not a word I like to use, as I am not in a position to judge. I use it, as we are staring down the barrel of a gun, but we still have this rebel instinct and ignorance that nothing would happen to me. Government is against us. Everything should be for free. A pity party.

When the dust settles, the innovators would survive the economic downturn. The burden on the government is going to be larger than ever. The chances of retaining all the jobs that were available prior to this will be near impossible.

We need to stay inside to ensure that the time we are required to stay inside is not prolonged. That is the reality. We might suffer for 3 weeks, but by being an idiot outside, we might have to stay inside for 3 months. And a lot of us will never go outside again.

Don't be an idiot, stay inside...

Be a legendary Comrade!

There are certain things in life that some of us would never do. Then, for others, they are so standard or essential that they can't do other than fully commit and ensure that they achieve this. What I am specifically thinking about is this past Sunday's Comrades marathon. I knew a few people that went to compete in the race, but I only knew one as a close friend. This was the third time that he went toKwazulu-Natal for the prestigious event. During both the other races he had to withdraw after completing a significant portion of the race because of injury. Although myself, and probably everyone that knows him, were very proud of what he achieved, his goal was not achieved, so he started training soon again. Training takes up probably 11 months of the year. They run half-marathons, marathons, ultra-marathons, and those are only the races. Four or five days a week they run 10 or more kilometres. Sitting in my coffeeshop

Often we go to a coffee shop to have a piece of cake, as well as some traditional coffee. I don't have a favourite shop, but try out as many different as possible. Friends tell us about a new shop they have discovered and then we also visit those. When we go there one of our favourite things to do is to pretend to figure out what other people are discussing. It usually turns out more or less like a soap opera, overelaborate and dramatic. We say the first thing that comes to mind. We do roleplay where my wife has a part I have a part. Normally very funny!
